The sad truth behind Solo Travelling…

They say Solo Travellers are wicked and admired for being brave, strong, empowered, and independent, especially if you are a woman. That is how I saw the characters and the vision of women who do things independently when I was still a child. Moreover, questions like: are they not scared? How does it feel? What do they do? Where do they go?

It’s fascinating to note that solo travel is not just a personal choice but a growing trend among American women. According to a 2014 survey by booking.com, 72% of American women take solo journeys, averaging three trips a year. What’s more, 65% of these women travel without their partners. And these numbers have only been on the rise since 2014.

There are numerous reasons why Solo Traveling is becoming a trend. Seeking independence, looking for peace, clearing your mind and thoughts, getting away from chaos, running away from conflict, trying to reinvent yourself, challenging the norm, getting bored and is bored, blogging, hungry for experience, etc… The list can go on and on for whatever reason. And for whatever it is, it sure does give you a great sense of fulfillment as a person, whatever gender you may be.

Solo Travelling can also have a downside. It can reignite a broken soul and an unstable spirit. The silence and the state of being alone can also dig the kept, hidden, and forgotten treasures in one’s memory. The precious time of a traveler can sink emotions deeper into an unwanted direction. It can also question your strength, stirring away the essence of independence. Safety is also of the utmost concern, especially for female travelers.

Every person is different and has a different perspective on this part of their journey. I am not a doctor, and neither am I a spiritual adviser. The body sometimes yearns for this experience, but the soul is still weak. For those beautiful in spirit, live the dream, hold your time, and taste life.

As a fellow traveler, I strongly recommend embarking on a solo journey at least once in your lifetime. It’s an experience that can truly enrich your life. But remember, it’s not always easy. Be prepared to face the challenges and uncertainties that come with solo travel. Happy Travelling… Godspeed 🙂

  1. First of all thank you so much for liking and following my blog . I have been travelling by myself since was in my 20’s, I’m going on 66 years old now. I didn’t do it because I was searching for something or that I was brave, I had no one who wanted to go to the cities that I wanted to go to. My motto for traveling is “staying at home is NOT an option . ” I also an am big sports fan, so if I can’t find someone to go yo thst baseball , hockey or basketball game with me, you best believe I’m going by myself and think nothing of it .
